Over $100,000 raised on Night of The Prowl
The Night of the Prowl, the final event of the Grizzly Prowl fund-raising project resulted in about $111,000 in sales of the 35 life-sized fiberglass grizzly bears and 5 smaller bears. Those in attendance were greeted by the Ed Norton Band, an 18 piece ensemble playing jazz and swing classics with Eden Atwood singing her heart out in front. Everything was first class, from the band and auction staff dressed in tuxedos to the steak and salmon dinner served just before the auction kicked off.

The highest bid went for Gridiron Greats by Tim Joyner and was generously donated back to the Grizzly Hall of Champions because “that is where it belongs!” The bid was for $16,700 which was $200 over the amount raised by Joyner’s Buffalo in Great Falls’ project the weekend prior. The bidding stagnated around $16,400 when Jim O’Day announced that Missoula couldn’t be outdone by Great Falls for a Joyner piece! The bidding resumed!

The highest bid for a smaller bear was $3050. Mark Gibson and Brian Schweyen, who corroborated their talents for the creation of Riverbed Bear, created a riverbed on a plank of wood and mounted their naturally painted little bear on the rocks. It was absolutely beautiful!

All proceeds from the auction benefit the Grizzly Scholarship Association. The GSA raises money to fund scholarships for deserving student-athletes at The University of Montana.

This project couldn’t have succeeded without tireless volunteer hours. A tremendous thank you to those who dedicated your hearts and souls…and muscles!... to this project.
